As most of you are aware, CAC has recently begun a public information campaign to bring awareness to the potential demolition of the Century and Consumers high-rises within the Loop Retail Historic District. Our first step was submitting an op-ed to Crain’s Chicago Business last month. If you do not hold a Crains subscription to bypass their paywall, you can download a copy of the essay here. Next, we built a short video outlining the issue and have started spreading it via social media. If you do not follow CAC social accounts, you can access the video here.
This week, our friends at MAS Context dropped a longer form article on the subject. The piece suffers from some lackluster editing, but don’t let that sour you, as it contains lots of helpful information. Removal of the two State Street towers would be a big loss, but it is the General Services Administration’s handling of these properties that holds equal concern.
CAC will keep pushing for a rethink and urging a different course of action by our government. In the meantime, please look for more updates from us and do take a minute to complete our simple public opinion poll… every show of public support is helpful as we continue to engage the decision-makers close to this issue over the coming weeks and months.
Thank you for your interest.
