As we wrap up another successful year at the CAC, we want to remind you of the requirements for each role. If you are a docent and have other roles such as an exhibit host, you must complete your docent requirements to remain in good standing with the docent community. There are a few exceptions so if you have any questions, please contact Jared for clarification. Read the information below along with what to expect if you did not meet your requirements this year.
Docents: Please refer to the docent handbook for further information.
ACTIVE DOCENT: An active docent has satisfactorily completed the CAC docent training course, completed the required first year tour hours, and fulfilled first-year requirements. In subsequent years, a docent is active if they have met the number of tours required in the preceding year. Docents who do not meet the required number of tours are placed on provisional status. A docent must complete a minimum of ten tours in each tour year, January 1 through December 31, to maintain active-docent status. The active-docent category has three levels of benefits that correspond to the combined number of tours and service hours (see Docent Benefits section). (pg 22)
SUSTAINING DOCENT: A sustaining docent must complete a minimum of five tours in each tour year, January 1 through December .
TOUR CERTIFICATION TIME LIMIT POLICY: Docents who have not conducted a specific tour in one year must be recertified by a certifier chosen by the director. This applies only to tours that are offered regularly, every year. The tour director may require observations or other refresher activities before the re-certification. Docent “byes” (as defined below) will not be counted as giving a tour for purposes of this policy. (pg 11)
WEEKEND AND EVENING TOURS: All docents are encouraged to give at least two weekend tours per year. To ensure adequate coverage, certain tours (such as the river cruise) have weekend and evening tour requirements as determined by the tour directors. (pg 13).
Education Guides:
An education guide must complete a minimum of 30 hours of service each year, January 1 through December 31, to maintain active status. Exceptions to this total amount will be granted if guide was trained after July 1 as well as if there were a lack of opportunities.
Exhibit Hosts:
An exhibit host must complete a minimum of 30 hours of service each year, January 1 through December 31, to maintain the active status. May be combined with guest service hours.
Guest Services:
Guest services must complete a minimum of 30 hours of service each year, January 1 through December 31, to maintain the active status. May be combined with exhibit host hours.
If you did not meet your requirements, Jared will contact you in early January for next steps. If you did meet your requirements, Caroline will contact you in early January.
