It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through 2024! Now is the time to check in and see if you are on track to fulfill all your requirements. To receive CAC volunteer benefit (free membership, shop discounts, etc.) you must complete your requirements! You can view your progress in your VolunteerMatters profile. Click on the ME icon and then the Requirements tab. Tours/Shifts are processed on a weekly basis.
Docent Requirements
- 10 tours per calendar year
- Give at least two (2) weekend tours per year (beginning with Class of 2015)
- Attend at least one continuing education offering per year. Continuing Education Options and How to Add to VM
- UPDATE – When we switch over to Better Impact adding hours will be simpler. You can continue to add hours in VM or you can wait for the Better Impact role out.
- Tour Certification Time Limit Policy
- Docents who have not conducted a specific tour in one year (beginning in 2015) must be re-certified on a public tour by a certifier chosen by the tour director. This applies only to tours that are offered regularly, every year.
- The tour director may require observations or other refresher activities before the re-certification.
- Docent “byes” will not be counted as giving a tour for purposes of this policy.
Sustaining Docent Requirements

Great idea to remind everyone about the requirments.
I had inquired about the Continuing Education requirement when I reviewed the updated Docent Handbook recently. I have been under the impression that that requirement was for docents from classes from a particular year forward, as opposed to all docents. I’ve not heard back from the person I asked yet. While I certainly have met the requirement each year, I have never entered anything to show that as I have thought that my class from 2000 was not subject to the requirement. So I would appreciate knowing whether I should be entering something to show I have met the requirement — at least for this year going forward.
I clicked on “Continuing Education Options and How to Add to VM” and within those instructions it does say that this requirement only applies to 2015 and later classes.
I have recorded service hours and continuing education hours and they do not show up on my profile.
I agree with Betsy. When are the service and continuing ed requirements posted? Like Betsy I have placed them in VM yet the requirement field remains empty.
In order to be an Education Guide do you also have to be an Exhibit Guide?
You can find instructions on how to enter service hours in the Tips & Tricks Reference Guide published earlier this year. You can find this Reference Guide here: Files & Documents > All Volunteers > Volunteer Matters and The Bridge Manuals > Tips and Tricks Reference Guide .
