Kudos – December 2019 – January 2020

John Blackburn, 2017
We chose the Art Deco Skyscrapers tour as it fit with our itinerary but would have taken any tour based on reviews and CAC’s reputation. John, our docent, was knowledgeable, entertaining and led our large (about 14) group effortlessly along sidewalks and into foyers of beautiful art deco significance. He not only discussed art deco architecture but pointed out and was a wealth of information on other styles as we walked along. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour.  – redhenMelbourne

Bryant Danisch, 2015
Our guide Bryant did a great job of pointing out the fabulous Art Deco sites in Chicago We managed to cover six great examples of Chicago Art Deco and tour inside five of them. – Jtrilling

Jan Elson, 2008
Our Chicago Highlights by Bus tour guide was Jan Elson. Both Jan and our driver delivered a memorable experience and to be clear, while tourists will be totally engaged, this is a splendid experience for a citizen. I should know, I live in the Loop!  My 23-year-old daughter joined me and I am considerably north of that in age. We both thoroughly enjoyed the sites and Jan’s remarkable balance of deep facts and personal injection. The entire journey was sprinkled with amazing tidbits both historical and contemporary.  Totally worth every penny if you get the chance. –  MikeWJ14

Dan Fitzgerald, 1986
Our Highlights by Bus guide was Dan, who has been doing these tours as a passionate volunteer for 34 years. He was exceptional, and the tour was absolutely perfect. There is no better way to get to really know the architecture and history of Chicago.  – BenjaminH181, Boston

 Fawn Gottlieb, 2011
I just wanted to convey how wonderful the tour was yesterday. We looked at Art Deco and Historic Skyscrapers. My 85-year-old, architect and client loved it! Fawn was a terrific guide and very informative! The best two hours I have spent in many years. The buildings we looked at were really spectacular! Long may they be protected & preserved! I will certainly be back for another tour!”  – David

Patricia Grund, 2001
Today we attended the architectural River Cruise by the First Lady fleet. Our docent Patricia was funny and super informative. We were so happy to attend this experience and we highly recommend it to everyone.  – Amanda W  Ventura, California

Siobhan Hartsell, 2017
On Dec 17th my friend and I went to a Chicago Architecture Center walking tour exploring the Tiffany Treasures in downtown buildings. It was a fantastic tour! We saw beautiful windows, ceilings, mosaics and stairwells. We had a wonderful guide, Siobhan, that was so knowledgeable, professional, kind and funny. I truly felt like I saw so many treasures and I learned so much. I definitely would bring an out of town guest to this tour or friends who may not be familiar with these Chicago treasures. –  domanicojm  Chicago, Illinois

Mary Jo Hoag, 2007
This was a Pedway tour given by Mary Jo. She was great and it was really fun and we learned a lot. The Chicago Architecture Center is worth joining just for these tours. This was a “hidden gem”! –  HelloThereAll

Betsy Jenkins, 2016
This Art Deco tour was very informative. We really enjoyed viewing both the inside and outside of great buildings. It is amazing how we could live in Chicago all our lives and yet we continue to learn about our beautiful and fascinating city. Our guide, Betsy, was friendly, knowledgeable, thorough and entertaining. She made the tour extremely enjoyable. Thank you. We love continued learning about the architecture of our Windy City. – josieg954

Elizabeth Little, 2019
A terrific 2 hours of seeing a host of historic buildings in downtown Chicago. The Historic Treasures of Chicago’s Golden Age tour guide (Elizabeth) provided in-depth knowledge of the buildings architecture, history and facts regarding their genesis. The two hours flew by. –  jphhall

Bill Myers, 1994
We went with friends on this 2 hour tour – Chicago Icons. We learned a lot about how styles have changed over the years. It was well done and we stopped several times where you had a great view of multiple buildings that could be compared and contrasted.  Bill was a great guide and provided good info that was interesting and fun. We really enjoyed ourselves.  – K1187HBlisag, Aurora, Indiana

Bobbi Pinkert, 1999
Hotel Boom – This was a walking tour of old buildings made into boutique hotels. I loved this tour. Absolutely fascinating. Bobbi was outstanding: she’s so knowledgeable and friendly! I can’t wait to come back to Chicago and stay in one of these places. –  carolbrody

Mark Purdome, 2019
Went on the Walk Through Time tour with Mark P. on 12/17/19 and had a great time. Mark really knew his stuff and fielded questions well. We heard tons of interesting stories about Chicago history and could really see the change of building technology over time. I really appreciated his talk about sustainability in the context of new buildings. One favorite moment was when he walked up to a building and stuck a Chicago flag magnet on the building to demonstrate the cast iron facade. Super cool! Some great buildings on this tour and some really fun views. Highly recommend!  – amandaql16

 Susan Robertson, 2009
We took the Pedway tour guided by Susan Robertson. It was an excellent informative tour, Susan has the ability to engage people up to the very last moment with lots of information and obvious enthusiasm. Highly recommended! Thank you very much!  – Manfred Wigger

Marcia Ross, 1994
Art Deco gems we wouldn’t have noticed! Chicago is a busy city and it is hard to stand around and gawk at everything. Having a guide to point out the beauty was a real treat (and so was Marsha [sic], our guide!). We would never have considered going into some of the buildings we visited and we would not have known what we were really looking for anyway. We are looking forward to a return trip to take more tours! – sammy10dog

Suzy Ruder, 2019
Suzy was a great docent! Knowledgeable, entertaining and charming. The 2-hour Historic Treasures tour went by in the blink of an eye. Highly recommend the tour! – 79maryannf  Doral, FL, United States

Roy Slowinski, 2009
Pedway tour by Roy was great!!!  Pedway is fascinating and Roy’s stories and pictures were a real treat. Thanks for another great tour. Think I’ll try the IC Pedway tour too!! –  katie1535  Oak Park, Illinois

Jeff Zurlinden, 2015
Our last stop on our Art Deco Skyscrapers tour came to appreciate the up lighting common in Art Deco buildings. As I almost always end these blogs, our docent Jeff was entertaining and informative. – RDZ Photography blog
