All Docent Day 2020 is coming up on Saturday, November 7 from 9:30 am – 11:30 am and will be something different this year! Given the current state of the planet, you’ll not be surprised that ADD 2020 will be virtual. Nevertheless, we’ll achieve our mission of conducting our annual business meeting and participating in a program designed to improve our tours.
Given the social unrest that has swept our nation, the Chicago Architecture Center is committed to addressing issues of race, equity, and inclusion through our tour content. The educational portion of ADD is designed to answer this question: what do we need to do to tell a more representative and honest story about Chicago’s architecture?
To that end, Adam Rubin will present a program that facilitates an examination of the question and provides an opportunity for discussion of possible new approaches. The 90 minute program will include a 45-minute lecture, 30 minutes for breakaway discussion groups, and 15 minutes for questions.
We’ve also coordinated with the very popular Book Club, sponsored by the Enrichment Committee, to feature a November selection that complements the All Docent Day program. The selection, The Warmth of Other Suns, (Isabel Wilkerson) is a compelling story of the Great Migration. If you can’t make the dates and times of the Book Club, we encourage you to read this on your own.
We’ll begin the day with a 30-minute business meeting, including a message from Lynn Osmond, before moving to Adam’s presentation.
