Calling all docents who are interested in serving CAC beyond giving tours! This November, the docent body will elect its representatives to the Docent Council. We may not be Uncle Sam, but the Nominating Committee is seeking qualified, interested and eager docents who would like to serve.
The DC consists of 12 docent representatives, a docent-at-large, and docent candidate representatives from training classes. The council’s purpose is to convey the interests of the docents to the CAF Board of Trustees and staff and to provide governance for the docent body. The docent-at-large represents CAC docents as a voting, ex-officio member of the CAF Board of Trustees and is a voting member of DC.
This year, one half, or six, slots, are open, with four incumbents eligible to run again if they so choose. Each docent representative serves for two years; the docent-at-large serves for one year. Docent Council representatives cannot serve for more than three consecutive terms.
An active docent is eligible for re-election after two years of DC non-membership. The term of office begins at the January 2022 DC meeting. While the full scope of a DC representative is in the Articles of Operation, available on The Bridge, here is a summary for those docents interested in nomination:
- Currently the DC meets the first Tuesday of the month from 6-7:30 p.m. at CAC. You are expected to attend these monthly meetings.
- Regular members of DC are expected to join one standing committees, with one monthly meeting. The choice is theirs to make, with the idea that they will help the committee and provide feedback to the Council. If a nominee or newly elected docent already serves on a standing committee, he/she may remain on that committee.
- The time commitment for a DC member who is serving on DC and one committee should average between 6 to 8 hours per month.
- Docent-at-large representatives would add an additional quarterly meeting of the Board of Trustees and an unknown, but usually small, number, of Board committee meetings.
Covid-19 has added some challenges this year with meetings which were held remotely. Here are the new guidelines for this coming year (2022) ONLY!!
- A minimum of four meetings per year will be conducted in person at CAC or an otherwise approved location. The remaining eight (or fewer) meetings will employ remote communications software, such as Zoom..
- The schedule for 2022 meetings — date, time, and format — will be published by February 1, 2022.
- Scheduled in-person meetings will be immediately cancelled and rescheduled using remote technology if CDC/CAC guidelines are adjusted to prohibit in-person gatherings with a specific cap of attendees.
If you would like to run for Docent Council and/or if you have questions about running, please contact Tom Stelmack (tr********@gm***.com), Ross Wirth (re**********@ro******.com ) or Cynthia Bates (me**@sb*******.net) who are on both the Election Committee and the Docent Council.
