Core Values ShoutOuts – January 2020

Robin Bauer, Class of 2016 – Collaboration and Respect
Robin led a sub-committee where she was an exemplary listener, someone who gathered and shared ideas, encouraged us to work together, solicited and respected all opinions and ideas, and delivered a result we all had a hand in building. – Joan Johns

Deb Garber,  Class of 2012 – Collaboration
Living in FL makes it challenging to get all my tours in on short visits. Deb willingly and quickly sacrificed one of her Historic Tours so I could get mine in. Thanks for the teamwork Deb! – Elizabeth Britt

Deb Garber – Respect and Integrity
Deb was the Tour Committee mentor for the new core tour What’s New! As mentor, she walked the route and wrote a piece of the manual. We are grateful for her assistance! – Mary Jo Hoag

Marisol Kelly, Class of 2015 – Collaboration
In October several Graceland Docents were enlisted for a private tour. We knew nothing about the group. It turned out that a significant number of them — over 30 — were Spanish-speaking. Many had questionable mastery of English. On the spot, with no warning, we enlisted Marisol to render her tour in Spanish. Yes, she grew up bilingual — but for any of us who struggle through multiple languages, you know if is more than just translating, especially when special vocabularies are concerned. On a dime, Marisol engaged her Spanish and gave a spectacular tour, often helped by participants with strong English who helped with vocabulary. What a performance. – Constance Rajala

Jeff Zurlinden, Class of 2015, Education Guide, Exhibit Host – Collaboration
Jeff is always ready to help and great resource! – Julie Swislow

Alissa Ballot, Exhibit Host – Collaboration and Continued Learning
I observed Alissa’s Exhibit Galleries tour. She shared ideas for presenting an interesting and informative tour. – Nancy Schwab

Molly Page, Class of 2013 – Continued Learning
Molly’s interviews on WGN radio are full of infectious enthusiasm and energy. Chicago shines as she describes city activities and events in addition to CAC happenings. – Jean Schlinkmann

Michele Kuhn, CAC Staff – Collaboration and Respect
Several of my emails were unanswered and requests for materials were reiterated several times. Michele took the time to call me (instead of assuming I was wrong) and TOGETHER we discovered my emails were going to spam. She also acknowledged my frustration and understood. – Bobbi Pinkert

Eric Rogers, CAC Staff – Integrity and Collaboration
Without Eric’s help and extensive contacts, the new tour What’s New! would have had a hard time getting off the ground. Thank you Eric! – Mary Jo Hoag

Judith Kaufman, Class of 2010 – Integrity
Judith acted as the chairperson for the All Docent Day in November. As chair, she was enthusiastic and focused while directing the task force to get the job done. The day turned out well because of Judith’s leadership – Mary Jo Hoag

Emily Clott, Class of 2012 – Collaboration
I knew it would be impossible for me to do all the things needed to get the new core tour What’s New! off the ground. Emily answered the bell when I asked for help and did a wonderful job especially in the organization of the manual and in determining the route in the cold! – Mary Jo Hoag

Delta Greene, Class of 2008 – Collaboration and Integrity
Delta did a wonderful job of writing a chunk of the manual for the new tour What’s New! Her research was stellar and her writing skills wonderful. Thank you Delta! – Mary Jo Hoag
