By Jean Schlinkmann, Class of 2013
Remember the Golden Rule you learned as a toddler? Treat others as you would like to be treated. This was the basis of my family’s value system. We were taught to be kind, generous and respectful. I bet you were too.
The CAC’s interpretation of the Golden Rule is The Core Values, created a few years ago for all volunteers and staff to follow. Maybe you live by them. Maybe you’ve forgotten them. Maybe you didn’t even know they existed. They are listed below for your review and you can pick up a copy in the library.
As we head into the hectic tour season we’ll face many challenges – congested sidewalks, summer heat, late arrivals, grumpy guests, lost tickets, lots of questions and mistakes made by others. We’ll graduate a docent class, and train new hosts and staff. In the midst of all of this, it is important to be patient and treat others as you would have them treat you…with kindness and respect.
The CAC Core Values address more than dealing with guests. When we interact with staff and one another, ticket and exhibit areas, and work on committees and train others, please take the Core Values to heart. When we are all kind, the world is a Golden place.

Thank you Jean! The world would overall be a better place if we remembered this.
