VEV Chair’s Message – September 2017

Greetings fellow volunteers,

While September is often regarded as the start of something (the school year, the unofficial start of autumn, shorter days), it can  also signify the end of something. This applies to CAF, especially this September.

Hopefully everyone has learned about the exciting next step in the growth of CAF. If you’ve not seen it yet, CLICK HERE for the link to Blair Kamin’s article about CAF’s move in the Chicago Tribune.

The volunteers and docents of CAF have proven extremely resilient, so I have every confidence that change, big or small, will be taken in stride. If  VEV’s have questions or concerns regarding the move, please feel free to contact me. I will be the VEV representative to the Move Task Force and welcome your input.

Meanwhile there are still volunteering opportunities to fill!

Per Caroline’s email of September 4th, there are still volunteer slots available at the Association of Architecture Organizations (AAO) 2017 DESIGN MATTERS CONFERENCE on September 14-16. If anyone is interested please contact Caroline.

The Chicago Architecture Biennial starts September 16th. Not only will it bring many visitors to Chicago and CAF, but it has a full schedule for any architecture aficionado to indulge in! CLICK HERE for the link to the Biennial website.

Once again I am going to add the link to volunteer for Open House Chicago on October 14-15th. CLICK HERE for the link to volunteer. There are a lot of times and opportunities, so you can make it work for you!

Let’s congratulate our newest Education Guides: Karen Bohr, David Cordaro, Jil Deheeger, Rachel Guy, Andrew Halverson, Nancy Hornak, Susan Mann, Claudia Neria, Michael Restko, Deborah Saulsbury, Aaron Wilson, Laureen Higgins & Nancy Mayer! Thank you for helping CAF gear up for the upcoming fall school field trip season.

That’s all for this month. If you have any questions or just want to say hello, drop me a note! Meanwhile, see you in the shop, the atrium, the Design Studio and 360 Chicago!

Sincerely,

Ellen Oberhart, Chair of the Volunteer Steering Committee
