Greetings fellow volunteers,
We are in the homestretch of the Summer of 2017!
It has been a very busy season in the shop and the atrium, and August shows no signs of slowing down. As volunteers, we can roll with any punches thrown our way!
Even those of us who have been volunteering for a short mount of time can see how important a role the Visitor Service Volunteers play in the box office and shop, especially when the staff is new. During hectic times, when the line in the box office starts backing up, VEVs alleviate the tension by stepping out from behind the box office and making sure customers are in the proper line. Some visitors just have to pick up tickets at Will Call, some need directions to the river, some think the River Cruise leaves from the shop! Whatever their need might be, frequently they don’t have to wait in line to purchase tickets. A little bit of communication and a friendly smile go a long way in moving the line along.
Likewise in the atrium, whenever people seem confused about where they are or where they should be, a friendly inquiry of help can be most welcome!
Now to bring to everyone’s attention and reiterate a few things Caroline touched on in her last Weekly Update. We all know how wonderful it is to be part of CAF as volunteers and the benefits we receive by doing so. We do, however, have a few requirements to continue being volunteers in good standing. One is that we put in a minimum of 30 hours of volunteering a year. To check how many volunteer hours you have accrued this year log onto Volunteer Matters. On the first page click the icon that says “Me”. Then click the tab on the next page labeled “Requirements” and over to the right you will see the number of hours fulfilled/required! Remember that if you started volunteering this year, you have a full year from your training date to complete your requirements.
This is a great time of year to check your hours and look at scheduling whatever you need to fulfill your requirement. If you are having trouble fitting it into your busy schedule, an easy way to support CAF and get a few extra hours in, is to volunteer for Open House Chicago on October 14-15th. CLICK HERE to sign up. There are different times and opportunities, so you can make it work with your schedule!
That’s all for this month. If you have any questions or just want to say hello, drop me a note! Meanwhile, see you in the shop, the atrium, the Design Studio and 360 Chicago!
Sincerely,
Ellen Oberhart, Chairman of the Volunteer Steering Committee
